A couple of mornings ago I had Arrow outside when a group of tweety birds came flying over the house.  I happened to have a camera with me, and he held the pose for at least ten seconds, so I snapped a pic.  It looks darker than it was, but you can still see him.  I hope it is a good sign -- he is not quite 15 weeks old yet.  This weekend he was introduced to some quail and he was absolutely jazzed about them.  Used his nose, too.

Thanks.  I have a couple of quail here at the house now, so I will be working him on birds frequently now.  Plus I just heard back today that it appears my quail lease will be available again this year.  It is a bit of a drive but well worth it, so needless to say I was very pleased.  I hope to give him some exposure and that by the end of the season he is figuring things out.

By the way, I would welcome the chance to train with other forum members in the DFW area sometime.  For those further away, I welcome input and suggestions and lessons learned.  This is all new to me, but I am confident that my dog has the genetics to be a quality hunting companion.  Hopefully all my study and efforts will bring that out and help him develop his natural ability.  :-)

Last night as I took Arrow out the front door for a jog around 9pm, he started acting all birdy around the front flower bed and shrubs.  He was wagging his tail and moving around and then he found a spot where he could stick his head in between some bushes and locked up.  I looked at my watch and he stayed almost motionless for three full minutes until a neighbor came outside and started talking to us (distracted him).

It was totally dark, so I could not see what might have been in there.  My guess is one of those suburban bunny rabbits that are so common in the neighborhood.  I was glad to see him use his nose and to hold such an intense point for so long -- he is a little over 4 months now.
