if i buy some (10) eastern or rio grand turkeys from a general store who got them from a hatchery

do i need a permit?

Probably if you lived in an area where there are actual wild turkey populations. When I was in my teens I bought some easterns from murry mcnurry hatchery. When ordering them they caution you to check with wildlife agencies in your area to see if a permit is required in areas that have wild turkeys. I kept them for a few years, but there weren't any eastern wild turkeys in Fort Worth either. I later had someone who raised rio's to give me a couple, but I stopped messing with the guy becuase he stayed in an area that has a lot of rios, and I wasn't sure of where he was getting his birds. Some of them were a bit too wild to be pen raised birds. Even the ones he gave me took off on me....
