HELP

Has anyone had much luck public hunting in Dallas? Looking at some WMA areas in Collin County, but I've never scouted them. Looking to pick a spot to walk-in with a buddy of mine tomorrow. Thanks

Don't know about Dallas, but i can tell you that the Rio Grande Valley has some excellent places to hunt, I meet some people from houston and Dallas last weekend at Las Palomas WMA and they tell me they would rather drive down south for some good shooting action that hunt just average locations up north,

Thanks guys. I'll do a little research on that. This weekend my buddy and I are going to try one of the WMAs up here just out of convenience. I'll let you know how it goes.

Just got back from Collin County. All shot out. We probably only saw 5-6 with only a few in shootable range. My buddy downed 2, but we couldn't locate them. One fell in thick brush a little ways off and the other was one he nailed unfortunately right at sundown.

Your biggest problem is rain we have had about 8 inches in north Texas the last 10 days. Migratory means movement, anytime you get that much rain with doves they move to where the weather is not. South or wait for fronts to push Kansas birds

Scott said the key word, "Migratory" those birds are constantly moving through the season, that's why I prefer to hunt doves from San Antonio down south to Mexico, because that's where the biggest congregation of Morning and Whitewing dove either live or pass through on the way down south.  There is some incredible bird hunting in the Alice, San Diego, Kingsville, Orange Grove area for whitewings, even some public land units, there are some excellent mid to late season hunts in Oct that can be just as or good or better then opening day hunts because of the huge amount of migratory birds that pass through south Texas with cold fronts!!!
