It's almost that time of year again to get the shot gun cleaned and start scouting locations to hunt some Texas doves.  I am a very serious dove hunter and spend many weekends during the season blasting at some flying flocks.  I just wanted to get a conversation started and see what everyone has got planned for this season and how the dove hunting looks like in your neck of the woods.  I am blessed to live near one of the best whitewing dove hunting flyways in the state here in San Antonio and I have been seeing nice flocks of 10-15 birds flying west and south away from the city.  The areas near Hwy 90 and 1604 heading towards Castorville look very good, but all over San Antonio just outside of 1604 the hunting will be incredible.  I also like to go down south and do some dove hunting in the Rio Grande Valley and also at our deer lease in Benavides.  From the reports I am getting down south, the flocks dont look as good as they have in the past, but you never know with changing weather conditions.  I do know one thing, come Labor Day weekend i will be knee deep in a sunflower patch blasting at some birds that will hopefully make their way to my bar b que grill during football season as apprtizers!!!

South of town is a great spot, i was checking out some corn fields just off Hwy 37 before Braunig lake and they are full of whitewings and I see nice flocks flying just south of the lake heading northwest into SA in the afternoons.  Looks like you got a good spot there outside of town and should see plenty of good whitewing action.  let me know if you can use a good dove hunting partner, i would love to blast some of those birds off that hill with a nice view of town!!!
