Will you be using your own dogs to hunt quail?

first timer this year, four of us stumbled around this past sunday, did not see a quail, talked to some guys with dogs, they were high kill on saturday,27 birds, they said, but only jumped 7 or so coveys, they said on a normal year they jump 20, they only killed 6 birds sunday

We hunted Sunday morning with no dogs.  Found 5 covey by driving. Unfortunately didn't make a kill. After flushing covey with truck they would fly into thick mesquite areas. It was tough shooting after we scared some up in the mesquite.
