Here's my black lab, Chase. He's a great retriever when it comes to dove (he never quits!) and flushes pheasant we would normally just walk right by. He's a new comer to quail hunting, only been once, but did fairly well. I'm hoping to get one or two more hunts in before the end of the season. Any training tips for flushing dogs, when it comes to quail (those sneaky little suckers)? Thanks.

Here's the pheasant Chase got for us. The one on the right was a tough hunt. I made probably one of the longest shots of my career and dropped it running. I sent Chase after it but had already made its gettaway into heavy brush and deep snow (just crusted enough for it but not for us). Anyway, I sent Chase tracking from the point I dropped it at, where there was blood. He picked up the sent pretty well at first but it was a dry windy day and he had trouble until he found a bloody print on the edge of the snow next to the corn field. I'll be damned if Chase didn't track that scent 40 yards or so out into the corn field. He flushed the pheasant a second time out of some bent over stalks and I made sure I downed him for good that time. That was probably one of the proudest moments I've had and one of the proudest retrieves I've seen Chase make....he knew he did a great job!

qman,
I've been doing that but it won't post. The thread says there's an attachment but it doesn't show up. I made sure the pic was the right size and everything. I'm not sure what else to do.

Thanks a million Allen. I appreciate the help in posting those pics....and I will try that next time I have a pic to post. And to answer your question...I am currently a graduate student here at Tech where I did my undergraduate work as well.
The decription for the pheasant pic is in the second entry of this thread. I unfortunately had some trouble uploading the pics, but Allen was nice enough to help me out. The dove picture shows the 15 mournings that Chase and I got on Sept 5 of this past season. My dad and I limited out on the next two days in about 1.5 hours and ended the weekend with 75 dove!!! It was a incredible spot and proved for good hunting all season long. There were two other times that I limited out and I wasn't the only one out there. Chase had a blast and slept for a week it seemed like.
That pheasant hunt was one I'll never forget though.
Thanks again Allen...hope everyone enjoys ~ texas_tech_lab

Here my boy Huntz at 10 months old. I have two pheasant in hand.
This was his second time out on the second day of the season.
He pointed one the day before and I missed it with 3 shots, He just
stood and staired at me like I was an idiot and I felt like one too!

Here is Huntz on point to a covy of Bobwhites when he was 2 years old.
He is a lot bigger and more stocky at 95lbs.
