Working to make hunting more affordable for Texas sportsmen, the Texas Deer Association (TDA) has taken its message on a ‘whistle stop’ tour across the state to promote more affordable hunting. TDA is visiting several Bass Pro Shop locations in Texas to showcase its all-new Hunt for Less program which can save hunters hundreds of dollars on a wide variety of hunting opportunities.

Recreational Fishing Alliance (RFA) today began deploying the Jack Cowan Reef off of Freeport Texas.     Named for famed Texas outdoor artist John P. (Jack) Cowan, the reef is located about 8 miles offshore in Texas state waters on a bearing of 213 degrees from the Freeport jetties.

Brownwood -

James Hallum of Brownwood was in the field on opening day on Tuesday for the 65th consecutive year.  Although the 75-year-old gentleman doesn't remember how many birds he killed when he first hunted on opening day in 1944, Steve Knight of the Tyler Morning Telegraph says Hallum on Tuesday brought home a half-dozen birds from his morning hunt.

Since 2005, over 4.2 million acres have expired, and over the next five years, another 21 million more acres are slated to expire. That makes participating in the public comment period and public meetings about CRP in September and October the most significant action you can take as a Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever supporter this autumn.

 A total of $225,000 in Texas Healthy Habitats Grants has been awarded to 15 different schools and non-profit youth organizations across the state, including near Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, Houston, Bryan, Lubbock and other cities. Each organization will receive up to $15,000 to support students doing service-learning projects to benefit wildlife and the environment.

 It was a much brighter outlook, a glass way over half full kind of scenario, that Dr. Lenny Brennan, quail biologist with the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute, painted for South Texas quail.
