A coalition of hunting, fishing and conservation organizations urged the House and Senate Appropriations Committees to maintain mandatory spending levels for the many vital U.S. Department of Agriculture conservation programs as authorized in the 2008 Farm Bill, the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership announced today.

The accomplishments of quail stewardship, quail habitat restoration, and lifetime achievement in quail management in Texas were honored Thursday by over 450 attendees at the Texas Wildlife Association Foundation Quail Conservation Awards and Gala in Houston.

Negotiations continue on eminent domain reform, and Texas Wildlife Association expects the Senate to finalize committee language and move it out next week using Sen. Craig Estes' SB 18 as the bill moving forward. While no one has seen the final product of negotiations, good friends who understand TWA's concerns relative to full and just compensation for diminished access are directly involved in talks.

Upland game enthusiasts from the Dallas-Forth Worth area have formed the region's newest Pheasants Forever (PF) chapter, the DFW Chapter of PF. The new chapter will work with local natural resource agencies and landowners within the 37-county panhandle portion of Texas to improve land management practices for pheasants and other upland birds.

Global Positioning System radio collars tuned to specific frequencies last about two years. The collars enable Sumner to obtain home range sizes and movement by determining the location of each deer every five hours.
