Dove Hunting on Public land near Garner State Park

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had hunted public lands near Garner State Park for dove? My family will be camping in Garner during opening weekend and I would like to put my 15 year old son and his best friend on some birds. This is his 2nd season to hunt due to last year he broke his right collar bone after our first hunt mountain biking. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I don't think there is any public land for Dove hunting in the area unless it's in Lost Mapples state park or another unit I am not aware of. i know there use to be one south of Ulvade and some in Frio county, I know all round garner state park there are lots of whitewings, I have seen them flying in flocks while floating the river, there are some great outfitters in the area if your willing to pay for a day or weekend hunt package.  My advice to you is if its Doves your looking to shoot look to San Antonio or the Rio Grande Valley, both areas are going to be holding a tremendous amount of Doves for some excellent shooting this year, I'm excited!!!
